Dr. Dre's Son "Hood Surgeon" Preparing Debut Album

feat_hoodsurgeon

Affluent Records is planning to release the debut album from Hood Surgeon, the son of legendary West coast producer Dr. Dre.
The 16-track album, titled The
Hood Surgeon: The Autopsy of Curtis Young, features production by Knocturnal and a cameo appearance by David Banner.

The Autopsy details
Hood Surgeon's life growing up in Compton, CA which has produced a number of legendary rappers, including his father Andre "Dr. Dre" Young, NWA, Eazy-E, The Game, MC Eiht, DJ Quik and numerous others.

"
It’s like, you know you’re gonna hear the struggle I went through..." Hood Surgeon said in an interview. "Motherf**kers can [check up on] my s**t and see what I been through and where I grew up at, and they’ll see that I’m not lying. I’m not gonna say I was out there shooting motherf**kers and doing all that, but I grew up around that, so I might speak on something that happened around me in my music. They ain’t gonna hear me say something I didn’t do."

As a rapper and producer,
Hood Surgeon, born Curtis Young, is inspired by East and West coast rappers such as Tupac Shakur, The Notorious BIG, Jay-Z and his father Dr. Dre, who is also the CEO of Aftermath Recordings.

While he didn't meet his father until a much later age, he found out that his father was a legendary producer around the age of 12 and followed in his famous father's footsteps."
I'm going through the grind like he did, like he had to go through. And so that way when I get it, I'll respect it more..." Hood Surgeon said. "I went through the same thing he been through. I met him when I was 21. I didn’t know him growin’ up. We just was right up under each other’s noses basically, not knowing that, you know, that that was my pop and he didn’t know I was his son."

So Hood Records is distributed by Affluent Records, which is distributed nationally by Red Eye Distribution.

The Hood Surgeon: The Autopsy of Curtis Young is due in stores July 24.

The Case of The Misplaced Mic", "Minnie The Moocher" and "Never Be Beat".

cube-111jpeg

According to the
Hollywood Reporter, the movie, which is inspired by the real life of former New England Patriots defensive back Tebucky Jones, centers around an NFL player who realizes that his children have become "spoiled brats" and decides to have them spend their summer in the less than serene streets of Oakland, Ca where the player grew up. In addition to having an acting role in the film, Ice Cube will also serve as producer for the project.

The Game & 50 Cent On The Same Track !?!?

busta5large_thegame2306fifty

Busta Rhymes
is determined to get The Game and 50 Cent, to appear on a song together for his upcoming album Before Hell Freezes Over.

Busta Rhymes is trying to get 50 Cent and The Game to reunite on his upcoming album, "Before Hell Freezes Over". Has said if it were up to him, the two would quash their quarrelling altogether. "I have always had a problem with the beef," he said recently. "If you listen to ’Doctor’s Advocate,’ which is the title track on [Game’s] album, I didn’t agree with how he handled the situation with 50. 50 cent, even though I don’t agree with everything he has done, he is still somewhat of an orchestrator of the situation from a general rank standpoint. If you are an apprentice coming under someone, there is a general pride and ego. You gotta swallow a certain thing. It’s a part of being conditioned for greatness. Humbling yourself is the key when it comes to reach a certain place.

"The Game needed to understand, even though he is a very incredible talent, a genius with his work ethic and his ability to contribute with the music in a great way, he’s still gotta play a certain role," Bus added. "That’s why when I got on his record, before I did, I had to say, ’When I get on your song, I’m coming from a real perspective.’ He was so embracing in that because he is a very intelligent dude. He understands that it works to his advantage. He understands that it works in his favour, because he doesn’t hide from the truth. But Game sometimes is very impulsive. I don’t fault him for that, he is still young. He will evolve into that super-great thing he is destined to become."

Dr. Dre To Operate On Papoose?

p_2
Word is spreading that Papoose may be working with Dr. Dre on his long anticipated debut, The Nacerima Dream.
Though his freshman LP is reportedly completed, Pap is still stacking up material. While the Brooklyn emcee has already worked with

"It ain't final till it's final," Pap said regarding Dre's production. "I got some joints though."

Though a release date has yet to be set, Pap vows not to sit on the shelf this year. He promises that his record will sit amongst hip-hop classics once it finally hits stores.

The Game shoots "Wouldn't get Far" Video

Picture 84

Game can thank Common for his new single, "Wouldn't Get Far." Com had nothing to do with the production, but after he turned down the Kanye West-produced track, 'Ye slid it to his West Coast partna.

"Game had texted me like, 'Yo, what's up? I'm finishing the album,' " West recalled Tuesday on the Los Angeles set of a video for the single. "And you know how [producers usually] send, like, 12 beats? I sent the one beat and said, 'I got this one for you. This is it, right here.' If he had passed on it, I would've used it myself, but I'm happy that Game went ahead and did it."

It took several months, but their collaboration is now ready to hit the small screen in the form of a music video. Game said it's tough, though, keeping up his patented Compton snarl when hanging around the lovable Louis Vuitton Don.

"He chips away at my gangsta," Game said during a lunch break. "He's got so much style and class. He jumps around in the videos. He's saying how all the chicks dig him; they dig me too, [but] he gets a smile on a gangsta's face. Kanye is one of my homies — we both young, black, rich and famous. And we having fun in California."

Lil Jon and Pitbull also made their way onto the set of the video — which spoofs the video-vixen concept — to show Game love, and Game was in fact expecting some cameos from some of the vixens he addresses in the song, like Melyssa Ford, Hoopz from VH1's "Flavor of Love" and Vida Guerra, but only Gloria Velez showed up .

"It wasn't really a dis, I shouted them out," Game said about some of his unflattering lyrics in the record, which portray the women as having hidden agendas in their interactions with celebrity male performers. "It's all in the fun, good nature of hip-hop. We're just having fun. It was never nothing personal.

"Some people, I had to pick up the phone and had to reach out to," he added about how he contacted the vixens. "My management had some relationships. ... Some people showed up, some people didn't, but at the end of the day it's my video. All we really need is me — I'm pretty too!"

Besides "Wouldn't Get Far," Game might be going in front of the camera for a couple of videos with Nas. There's talk about the two shooting "Hustlers" from Nas' Hip Hop Is Dead and "Why You Hate the Game" rom Game's latest LP, Doctor's Advocate.

"We talk about everything — life, kids. It's bigger than hip-hop with us," Game said of his relationship with God's Son. "He's one of my homies. He's my mentor, he's been like a big brother to me. You can look for me and Nas to be doing a lot of stuff: hangin', chillin', doing movies, albums."

Unlike his friend from New York, who says sometimes he feels he can rap forever, Game said his time in rap could very well be reaching an end. He said he wants to spend more time with his family and is thinking about bringing his album career to an abrupt halt.

"I got my third album all in my head," he said sitting in the director's chair on the set, with Kanye and G.O.O.D. Music artists Really Doe and Don C. joking in the back. "I know the title. I know how many songs it's gonna be. I know the concepts. My third album might be my last album — so look out."

Daz Talks Snoop Arrests, Abandons Use Of 'N-Word'

daz7
Daz Dillinger is making his feelings known about the treatment his cousin Snoop Dogg received from police, as well as his views on the music industry and his belief that slavery is alive and well.

"I am beginning to believe that slavery is back,” the multi-platinum producer/rapper (born Delmar Arnaud) revealed in a press statement. “Everything is a plantation, rather you work downtown or you work at a factory,
we are still in a plantation. And just because someone receives money doesn't mean they are free. Especially if they are threatened to lose the money if they don't do what they are told. This is slavery in 2006 and in 2007, and it is my goal to make sure we escape and get free."

Daz’ frustration is his reaction towards Snoop’s recent run-ins with the law, which Daz labeled as “police harassment and unfair targeting."

Snoop was in court Monday (Dec. 4) to answer charges of carrying a 20-inch collapsible baton in his luggage at
John Wayne Airport in September.

The lyricist is set for another court appearance Dec. 12 on charges of illegal drug and gun
possession after being arrested Oct. 26 at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank.

His most recent arrest came in Burbank Nov. 28 after a performance on
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Snoop must appear in court Jan. 11 to answer the charges, which were given after police stopped his vehicle and found a handgun and small amounts of marijuana and cocaine.

"Snoop Dogg is another black man that is getting harassed,” Daz said. “If you take the title Snoop Dogg away, there wouldn't be any media attention. He'd silently be harassed every day until they created some type of scenario to lock him up. Luckily and hopefully the media can shine its light on this ridiculous double standard of the legal system."

The Dogg Pound member’s outrage has sparked plans to set up community centers to help young African-American and Latino men and women learn about the music industry as a way of getting them off the streets.

Additionally, Daz is speaking out on the controversy surrounding the shooting of Sean Bell, the 23-year-old man who was shot execution style by New York authorities the night before his wedding.

A protest rally in regards to the shooting of Bell is slated to take place tomorrow (Dec. 7) in New York.

"This has got to stop,” stated Daz, who called for black people to “raise our voice and if necessary our fists against this continued and blatant murder against Black people."

The recent slate of events, coupled with Daz’ dissatisfaction with the music industry and his former label So So Def Records, serve as motivation for an upcoming release titled Slavery is Back.

"Hanging around Tupac, his political mind state definitely rubbed off on me,” Daz said. “I have been political. However this industry doesn't want anything now that doesn't have you killing yourself or dancing."

The comments come amid Daz’ recent departure from So So Def after reaching a creative stalemate with the powers that be.

"At So So Def I wanted a different route. I wanted a different direction, but I never was heard,” Daz said. “They wanted me to tap into a market that was in the '90s. They wanted me to dilute my message.”

Fans won't have to wait long for a musical helping of Daz. The rapper's next release Dogg Chit, will mark the last time Daz will actively use the "N-word" on wax on material he said possess a “self hatred mind frame.”

He vows instead to take more responsibility for his lyrics as well as redefine the term he helped popularize.

“I speak to those black men who are out there barely trying to survive. But there are different levels of being a gangster," Daz expressed. "The president of the United States is a gangster and I want to address those issues and the many levels and sophistication that is attached with that word...black people are operating on a lower level, gang banging. Real power is owning a country not a block. Especially not a block that has no resources on it. The streets we are fighting for doesn't have oil in it, diamonds in it. So what are we killing each other for? It's time for Black men and Black women to realize that yes you maybe a gangster for killing someone. But if you are killing someone and have the fear of going to jail over your head, that isn't a gangster. A real gangster like President Bush doesn't even have to fear that. I want to expose that. And in my upcoming album Slavery is Back I will."

Dogg Chit is scheduled to hit stores in February 2007. Slavery is Back will hit stores in 2007.

50 Cent Prepairing next album "Before I Self Destruct"

50_cent_150
G-Unit general 50 Cent is working on his third album, Before I Self Destruct, which he plans to release next spring. The rapper offered a simple explanation for the album’s title. He told MTV.com, "Because it could potentially happen."
50 Cent added, "I show more vulnerability on this record than on others. I’m in a space where I can experiment a little bit. I mean, I felt a lot of pressure between each one of my projects. And they don’t say, ’Do you think 50 can make a good record?’They say, ’Do you think he can do it again?’And that means (if I will) have the same success as I’ve had on each one of those projects. They don’t care whether the state of the music business is changing; they’ll say I’ve failed if I don’t do what I did on the first two projects."
The rapper further explained that digital downloading has changed the music business. He said, "So 11 million records on my first album and 9.5 on my second album. And when I’m getting ready to go into this project, considering that Apple is selling millions of iPods and Microsoft is coming out with competing products and Sony — everybody has something that encourages people to download material instead of purchasing the actual CD. The general public will still take advantage of it and say that I’m becoming less of an artist."
For his next release, Before I Self-Destruct, the Queens emcee plans to employ a heavy dose of Motown samples as the bedrock of the production, according to several reports. He’s even employing a well-known R&B producer, D.C.’s Rich Harrison, to contribute to the record, according to VH1.com, which also noted that 50’s been inspired lately by artists like Smokey Robinson.

Producer J.R. Rotem Inks Label Deal With Epic Records

1399355606_l
Multi-platinum producer Jonathan "J.R." Rotem recently inked a deal with Epic Records, allowing him to develope, produce and sign new artists through a joint venture for his imprint Beluga Heights.

Epic will oversee all the marketing, promotion, sales and distribution of the new label, which will run out of J.R.'s studio in the exclusive Chalice Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California.

"Their office is the studio, finding great talent, nurturing, developing and collaborating around the clock. It's a 24 hour game for them and we're thrilled to be playing on their street," said Charlie Walk, Epic Records' President.

"The deal was designed so that J.R.'s relationship to Epic will be what Dre's relationship is to Interscope. He'll be the musical ear and face of the label," added J.R.'s manager Zach Katz, who is also his partner in Beluga Heights and the company's CEO.

Rotem is coming off of a very success year, producing hits such as Rihanna's "S.O.S," Rick Ross's top ten street anthem "Push It," and the title track to The Game's highly anticipated sophomore album,
Doctor's Advocate. With over 100 records produced in the last two years, recent music credentials include producing songs for artists like 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Jojo, Lil Kim, Ashley Tisdale, Snoop Dogg and work on the upcoming Britney Spears' record.

"I think I have the ability to both make hits and help make artists," said Rotem. "I don't want to overstate things, but I'm very excited about my forthcoming work."

MTV shared Mr. Rotem's excitement, naming him one of the four superproducers of 2006, along with Timbaland, Swizz Beats and Sean Garret.

Rotem is currently spending most of his time in the studio with Beluga Heights's first signee Sean Kingston, a 16-year-old Miami rapper known for his Jamaican-patois-infused vocals.

Snoop Dogg Arrested After Jay Leno Appearance

snoop_dogg_150v2
Snoop Dogg is in more hot water. The rapper was arrested Tuesday (November 28) in Burbank, California on drug and gun possession after leaving a taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The 35-year-old rapper (real name:
Calvin Broadus) was leaving NBC studios in a four-car caravan after an appearance on Jay Leno's show when officers pulled over Snoop and his entourage on Bob Hope Drive to serve a search warrant.

After a search of the vehicles, Snoop was arrested for a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine and marijuana for sale and possession of a false compartment in a vehicle.

“As a result of the search warrant that was served on his person and at his house, he was arrested," said Sgt. Kevin Grandalski told local media.

According to Grandalski, they obtained a search warrant as a part of an ongoing investigation, stemming from the rapper's October arrest at the Bob Hope Airport on drug charges and charges of being a felon in possession of a weapon .
Two members of Snoop's entourage were also arrested -- one for an outstanding warrant and the other on suspicion of possession of burglary tools.

Snoop Dogg was booked and released on $35,000 bail pending a hearing on December 12.
